About ANRF MATRICS Scheme

The Mathematical Research Impact Centric Support (MATRICS) scheme is a specialized funding program managed by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF / formerly SERB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Unlike experimental science schemes that require heavy capital equipment, MATRICS recognizes that theoretical researchers require flexible recurring support for computational facilities, research literature, domain collaborations, and scholarly travel.

The scheme provides a fixed research grant of ₹2 Lakhs per year (plus institutional overheads) for a period of 3 years (totaling ₹6.6 Lakhs) to active researchers working in pure and applied theoretical sciences.

Covered disciplines include Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science, Theoretical Physics, Statistics, Mathematical Biology, and Econometrics.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

Eligibility Rule 1

Indian citizens holding a regular academic or research position in a recognized academic institution or national R&D lab in India.

Eligibility Rule 2

The applicant must hold a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Theoretical Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, or allied fields.

Eligibility Rule 3

Must have an active research track record demonstrated by publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals.

Eligibility Rule 4

The research proposal must be purely theoretical or computational in nature (no wet lab / experimental budget).

Eligibility Rule 5

Investigators holding an active experimental grant (like CRG) are not eligible during its active tenure.

Eligibility Rule 6

Faculty from central universities, IITs, IISERs, TIFR, CMI, IMSc, and state universities are eligible.
