About BIRAC E-YUVA Fellowship

The E-YUVA (Empowering Youth for Undertaking Value Added Innovative Translational Research) scheme is an educational and translational research initiative launched by BIRAC, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India.

Aimed at instilling an entrepreneurial culture among young biotechnology students and fresh postgraduates, E-YUVA operates through specialized E-YUVA Centres (EYCs) established across Indian universities and research institutes.

The scheme is structured into two main tracks: BIRAC Innovation Fellows (providing monthly fellowships of ₹30,000 for postgraduates and ₹50,000 for post-docs plus annual research grants up to ₹7.5-10 Lakhs) and BIRAC E-YUVA Fellows (supporting undergraduate student teams with up to ₹2.5-3 Lakhs project grants).

Fellows receive dedicated bench space in advanced bio-laboratories, technical mentorship from leading university faculty and industry scientists, and direct incubation backing to translate their academic research into commercial biotechnology startups.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

Eligibility Rule 1

Indian citizens enrolled in or recently graduated from UG, PG, or PhD programs in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or Biomedical Engineering.

Eligibility Rule 2

Undergraduate teams (up to 3-5 students) can apply under the E-YUVA Student Track with a faculty mentor.

Eligibility Rule 3

Postgraduate and Postdoctoral researchers apply under the BIRAC Innovation Fellow Track.

Eligibility Rule 4

The research proposal must focus on innovative, translational applications in healthcare, agriculture, or industrial biotech.

Eligibility Rule 5

Must apply through an officially designated E-YUVA Centre (EYC) at a host university.

Eligibility Rule 6

Candidates must not be drawing concurrent fellowships from other central funding agencies (CSIR, UGC, ICMR).
