About iDEX Defence India Startup Challenge (DISC)

The Defence India Startup Challenge (DISC) is the hallmark challenge program launched by the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

DISC presents precise, critical operational problem statements framed directly by the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs such as HAL, BEL, BDL, MDL).

Startups and MSMEs selected under DISC receive up to ₹1.5 Crores in non-dilutive grant-in-aid (covering up to 50% of the project development budget) to build, test, and deliver functional military prototypes within 12 to 18 months.

DISC has catalyzed breakthrough indigenous solutions in secure tactical communications, AI-based threat detection, unmanned aerial swarms, underwater acoustics, radar components, and soldier health monitoring.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

Eligibility Rule 1

DPIIT-recognized Startups, MSMEs, or Indian private technology companies.

Eligibility Rule 2

At least 51% of equity shareholding must be owned and controlled by Indian resident citizens.

Eligibility Rule 3

Must submit a detailed technical response to one or more officially released DISC problem statements.

Eligibility Rule 4

Must be willing to contribute 50% matching co-share of the total project expenditure.

Eligibility Rule 5

Must possess technical competence to deliver a prototype ready for field trials within 12-18 months.

Eligibility Rule 6

Applicants must clear mandatory security checks and background vetting.
