About iDEX Prime Scheme

The iDEX Prime Scheme was introduced by the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, to bridge the capital requirement gap for projects requiring larger financial investments than standard DISC grants.

Providing non-dilutive grant-in-aid of up to ₹10 Crores per project, iDEX Prime enables mature Indian startups, innovators, and MSMEs to undertake advanced system-level prototyping and qualification for the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and Indian Coast Guard.

Key challenge areas include artificial intelligence, computer vision for tactical reconnaissance, unmanned ground vehicles, counter-drone interception systems, stealth communication protocols, and high-altitude thermal gear.

Recipients receive dedicated handholding through iDEX Partner Incubators (IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad), access to military firing ranges, and priority single-source procurement under Defence Acquisition Procedure provisions.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

Eligibility Rule 1

DPIIT-recognized Startups, MSMEs, or Indian private technology companies.

Eligibility Rule 2

At least 51% of equity shareholding must be held by Indian resident citizens.

Eligibility Rule 3

Must possess proven technical capability, design infrastructure, and engineering personnel.

Eligibility Rule 4

Must apply in response to officially notified iDEX Prime challenge problem statements.

Eligibility Rule 5

The proposed technology must be designed to scale from TRL 4/5 to high military readiness (TRL 7/8).

Founders and core technical teams must clear mandatory national security vetting.
