MSME Champions Scheme
The MSME Design Scheme is a premier component of the MSME Champions Scheme (Innovative sub-scheme) launched by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.
Aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness and visual appeal of Indian manufacturing and service MSMEs, the scheme provides financial assistance up to ₹40 Lakhs to engage professional design consultants and institutions for product architecture, industrial styling, and ergonomic innovation.
Under the scheme, the Central Government reimburses 75% of the total project cost for Micro enterprises and 60% for Small & Medium enterprises (up to a ceiling of ₹40 Lakhs), with special 85% subsidies for women and SC/ST owned enterprises.
The scheme also supports student design projects with up to ₹2.5 Lakhs (reimbursing 75% of costs) when MSMEs collaborate with design students from premier institutes like NID, IITs, and NIFT to solve practical industrial design challenges.
Financial assistance up to ₹40 Lakhs covering 75% to 85% of total product design and prototyping expenditure.
Up to ₹2.5 Lakhs grant to commission design students and fresh graduates for company branding and packaging.
Direct collaboration and technical execution through accredited design hubs like NID Ahmedabad and IITs.
Covers industrial styling, ergonomics, mechanical enclosures, tooling design, packaging, and UI/UX.
Higher reimbursement slab of up to 85% for female-led, SC/ST, and NER/Hilly region MSMEs.
End-to-end digital application, screening, and milestone disbursement through the MSME Champions portal.
Any registered Micro, Small, or Medium Enterprise with a valid Udyam Registration Certificate.
The MSME must be engaged in manufacturing or technical service activities.
Must be willing to contribute the matching co-share (15% to 40% depending on enterprise category).
The design proposal must focus on creating a new product design, enhancing existing aesthetics, or solving ergonomic issues.
Design consultants engaged must be certified professionals or accredited design institutions (NID, IIT, etc.).
Enterprises in priority sectors like textiles, machinery, electronics, consumer goods, and handicrafts are encouraged.
Significantly upgrades product visual appeal, user experience, and international export readiness.
Subsidizes up to 85% of high-cost industrial design and design software licensing fees.
Direct partnership with India's top design scholars and creative institutions.
Enables domestic MSMEs to compete effectively against high-end imported consumer products.
Provides formal IP and design registration backing under the Indian Patent and Design Office.
Transparent evaluation through the Project Monitoring & Advisory Committee (PMAC).
Valid Udyam Registration Certificate & Enterprise PAN Card.
GST Registration Certificate and past 12 months GST returns.
Audited Financial Statements (Balance Sheet & P&L) for the preceding 2 financial years.
Comprehensive Design Proposal outlining problem statement, scope of design, and expected market impact.
Design Consultant Profile / MoA with accredited Design Institute (NID/IIT) and itemized quotation.
Promoters' KYC Documents (Aadhaar & PAN Cards).
Company Bank Account Details & Cancelled Cheque.
