Accelerating technology innovation across regional markets requires robust financial backing, strategic ecosystem linkages, and targeted regulatory alignment. Launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the MeitY GENESIS (Gen-Next Support for Innovative Startups) initiative provides a ₹490 Crore financial framework designed to discover, nurture, and scale innovative startups, with a core operational focus on Tier-II and Tier-III cities across India. For MSMEs and high-growth technology founders looking to capture regional market opportunities, securing capital through this flagship programme can dramatically accelerate commercialization.
Implementing a localized expansion strategy via government-backed deep-tech initiatives allows founders to de-risk operations while building scalable infrastructure. Whether your enterprise operates in artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, or semiconductor technologies, understanding how to navigate regional eligibility frameworks, documentation protocols, and compliance checkpoints is critical for long-term viability.
Who May Qualify
Meeting the eligibility criteria set by the MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) and implementing agencies is the first step toward securing non-dilutive grant capital and structured equity support. The evaluation framework is strictly regulated to ensure high-impact, genuine technology enterprises receive funding.
- DPIIT Recognized Startup: The applicant entity must hold formal startup recognition issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the national Startup India initiative.
- MeitY Startup Hub Registration: Startups must be formally registered on the MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) portal or have an active beneficiary standing under any prior MeitY-backed incubation or technology acceleration programme.
- Indian Promoter Ownership: Compliance with the Companies Act, 2013, requires that at least 51% of the total shareholding is held by Indian promoters at the time of submitting the application.
- Full-Time Leadership: The enterprise must employ a dedicated, full-time Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who holds operational control and drives commercial scaling, product roadmap execution, and strategic direction.
- Market-Ready Innovation: For advanced funding brackets—including Pilot (Proof-of-Concept), Investment Support, and Deep-Tech Support—applicants must demonstrate a market-ready technological solution, functional prototype, or commercially viable deployment.
Core Objectives and Strategic Focus
The MeitY GENESIS initiative is structured around specific socio-economic and technological pillars designed to democratize innovation across the country:
- Promoting regional tech hubs outside traditional metro cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi-NCR.
- Encouraging local manufacturing and semiconductor ecosystem integration.
- Facilitating mentorship through established industry leaders and academic incubators.
How to Apply
Eligible startups must submit their applications through the designated MeitY portal along with all required business documentation, pitch decks, and financial statements.
